abstract

this study aimed to investigate the spawning season, length at first maturity (lm 50 ) and sex ratio of metapenaeus affinis in the shrimp fishing grounds of hormozgan province, west of the persian gulf, iran. samples were taken by the swept area method and trawl net with 2 cm mesh size in the cod end from january 2010 to february 2011. results showed that the sex ratio deviated from 1:1 and female’s number were significantly higher than males. metapenaeus affinis females had continuous spawning in all seasons but the peak spawning season was found in spring, and stage 3 of maturity was observed in all seasons. length at maturity (lm 50 ) for females was estimated at 27.12 mm based on carapace length.

Population structure, sex ratio and growth of the seabob shrimp Xiphopenaeus kroyeri (Decapoda, Penaeidae) from coastal waters of southern Brazil

This study evaluated the growth and population structure of Xiphopenaeuskroyeri in Babitonga Bay, southern Brazil. Monthly trawls were conducted from July 2010 through June 2011, using a shrimp boat outfitted with double-rig nets, at depths from 5 to 17 m. Differences from the expected 0.5 sex ratio were determined by applying a Binomial test. A von Bertalanffy growth model was used to estimate...

Comparison of some reproductive characteristics of farmed and wild white shrimp males Litopenaeus vannamei (Decapoda: Penaeidae)

We rated some reproductive characteristics of white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei (Boone, 1931) males using 46 farmed individuals (weighing 21.42±0.56 g) and 40 wild individuals (weighing 36.10±0.72 g). In farmed shrimps, spermatophore mean weight was 8.94±0.51 mg; total mean sperm count was 3.90±0.27 x 106 in each spermatophore; and mean percentage of normal sperm was 86.9±0.37 %. In wild indivi...
